Infinity Events (IEI) was launched in 2001 however IEI was actually a spin off company from Spotlight Productions, an elite DJ entertainment company that focused on high end weddings and corporate events.

After 20 years as a DJ, owner Robb Thornsberry decided to hang up his headphones in 2009 and focus on building the Infinity Events name and our scope of services.

With 2011 marking the 10th Anniversary of Infinity Events, Robb has decided to bring Spotlight Productions back with a new logo, new technology that has become available, access to some of the most talented and respected DJ's in Southern California and for the first time ever, Spotlight Productions will now have it's own event design division that will focus only on wedding's and private events.

Now simply known as SPDJ & Events, a client will be able to book an amazing DJ (including Robb himself) and gain access to some of the industries best event professionals to use for their wedding or special private function.

Although the demand for wedding event services has always been strong, Robb had always intended for Infinity Events Inc to only service the corporate, association and entertainment sector. And now a bride will have the same level of design skills, vendor expertise and quality of service that is a standard with Infinity Events with SPDJ & Events.

Weddings were always the one service that IEI did not offer and that seperated us from the event industry's most successful producers and now with SPDJ, there is no limit to the ideas and creativity that we can provide.

SPDJ is still rebuilding with more and more information becoming available every day however our DJ services are available immediately.

The choices are now truly INFINITE with Infinity Events and SPDJ & Events providing similiar yet different services for two completely different demographics. All of our bases are covered so now the ball is in your court.

Caesars set to break ground on $500 million Strip project

Caesars Entertainment Corp. has raised the stakes in Las Vegas.

The company on Wednesday announced plans for The Linq, a $550 million retail, dining and entertainment project at the heart of the Strip. The highlight will be a giant Ferris-style observation wheel — The Las Vegas High Roller — which at 550 feet will be the tallest in the world.

Caesars Entertainment has tapped L.A. mall developer Caruso Affiliated (The Grove, Americana At Brand) to develop this massive entertainment, dining, hospitality, and retail district on the Las Vegas Strip.

Design and construction of the observation wheel — its 28 cabins will each carry up to 40 people.

The Las Vegas High Roller goes head-to-head with Skyvue Las Vegas, a competing project that broke ground in May on an 11-acre site across from Mandalay Bay at the southern end of the Strip. The brainchild of local developer Howard Bulloch, the project will include a 476-foot observation wheel, along with a roller coaster and 200,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and entertainment space.
“We expect it to be up and running in time for New Year’s 2012,” Bulloch told msnbc.com.

GETTING MORE WITH LESS. Budgets May Have a "Ceiling"...Creativity Doesn't

The federal government is learning the hard way, what the event industry has already known for a few years now and that is it's time to get creative and figure out how to make do with less.

While this is not a new concept, those who are not able to grasp it often react with a "knee jerk" approach and cancel anything that is perceived to be expensive. It is the easiest task in the world to produce greatness with unlimited funds however it takes a little ingenuity and creativity to still deliver results when the funds are not there.

Thankfully with a paper clip, dental floss and a dixie cup you can "MacGyver" your way to amazing results in event design.

Below are a few events we have produced over the past few years that have had budgets of $35,000 or less for groups of 400 or more. This budget has had to include the following:

Five Key Tips For Cost Savings Event Design:

1. Lighting, lighting and lighting: A little bit of well placed lighting can go a long way. L.E.D's are no longer an upgrade, they are the standard. You may spend a few more dollars however you get 50 x's more impact. One room set can yield 50 different looks at the touch of a button.

2. Staging: It's often included in the F&B contract and you are only limited by inventory that is available. Unique configurations and large scale staging and add immediate impact to your room.

3. All in the family: Family style seating is a hot trend right now. It adds a unique look to your dinner rather than the typical banquet round. The plus side is that you can achieve this look utilizing standard 6' or 8' buffet tables that most venues already own.

4. Go Big or Go Home: When you have less $, focus your budget on fewer, yet bigger design elements that will add immediate impact. Large props or set pieces can tell the whole story.

5. Simple Tables: Intricate design details at each table are nice when you have the $ however items such as charger plates, napkin rings, premium linens and designer chairs can all add up. Go with monochromatic colors, no prints, illuminated centerpieces rather than florals requiring a pin spot and spandex chair covers rather than expensive chair rentals can all save you hundreds of dollars.

Swan Ice Carvings, Balloon Arches, Western Theme Parties...Although none of these words are in the Infinity Events vocabulary, they were at one time the "IT" special event trends. Now the new "IT" must have are lounges at events. This has been a trend for a while and is showing no signs of leaving anytime soon.

With events focusing less on props and more on functional environmental design, lounges can serve many different purposes such as comfortable and stylish seating that help initiate social settings. Often times instead of complimenting the decor, they ARE the decor and lounges can transform any room or space into an ultra "seen or be seen" hip night club.

As an event producer who has been there done that and can be a bit jaded, it can take a lot to impress me. I have traveled a great deal for my job and have had the luxury and staying in and working in some amazing hotels. However it is never just about the hotel, it has a lot to do with the staff that I come into contact with that can truly make or break a good experience.

I am happy to report that one of my favorite venues for many reasons happens to be in my own backyard. The Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach. Just based on sheer aesthetics alone, this property is stunning. With Spanish Inspired Architecture, this property is expansive and offers the ultimate resort setting overlooking the Pacific Ocean. I was so thrilled to work with Nancy Monte Frye the Director of Catering who really invested herself into the success of our meeting.

Join MPIOC for one of our most popular annual events – SPEED NETWORKING! This is an opportunity to create new business alliances, save time and increase productivity and revenue for all participants.

A Look Back to 2010

With less than 30 days left in 2010, I stop and take a moment to reflect back on what has turned out to be a great year for Infinity Events. A year that has yielded some amazing clients, programs, travel to far away lands and alliances with remarkably talented event and meeting professionals.

All of which has led to ending my year with a nomination as a finalist for an Event Solutions Spotlight Award for Event Producer of The Year. As they say, the nomination alone is an honor however I would be less than truthful if I didn't say it would be a thrill to win. We were elated to be invited to bid on the massively large incentive program for Amway China consisting of 15,000 attendees over the course of one month. Out of approximately 25 companies worldwide that had been asked to bid, Infinity Events was the number 2 company however ultimately losing the bid. The experience was still a once in a lifetime opportunity as we traveled to Shanghai and pushed to limits of creativity and innovation both in design and entertainment in our bid which allowed us to challenge ourselves.

MPI Orange County's first meeting for 2010-2011

Last night, a record 136 MPIOC members and many new and non members gathered at the Hilton Waterfront Resort to kick off the new year and NEW MPIOC for 2010-2011. Not only was this a record number for a September meeting, we had a record number of planners in the room with a 60% planner to 40% supplier ratio. This is unprecedented.

The enthusiasm was amazing and the speaker was even better featuring Michele Wierzgac, MS, CMM who spoke on WRITING A POST CONFERENCE REPORT: Demonstrating Return On Investment (ROI).

So many people to thank for making this night possible but leading the pack is the Hilton Waterfront Resort including Don Chock and his team. They absolutely stepped up to the plate and completely "knocked it out of the park". It was such a collaborative effort with Don and his team truly demonstrating what it takes to "put your best foot forward".

As they say it takes a village and what a selection of talent we had to choose from including Absolutely Fabulous who provided us with linens and canvas palm trees, Signature Rentals who provided the natural wood Chivari chairs, Elegant Designs who provided the beautiful centerpieces and buffet arrangements, DJ Tasos who set the mood with fun beach tunes, Best Transportation who provided car service for our speaker, Best Impressions who provided our speaker gifts and the hardworking and creative talents of my programs committee chairperson Viviana Salvia. It is important to note that all of these services and products were 100% completely donated by our sponsors.

IEi Helps Dominos Celebrate 50 Years!

INFINITY EVENTS just back from Las Vegas after producing the 50th Birthday Rally for Dominos Pizza. L.E.D. lighting was widely used to provide many different looks for Plenary sessions, break outs and a gala dinner all in the same ballroom.

The gala dinner reflected a global feel as clear acrylic globes uplit in blue LED lighting were used as centerpieces. Gold spandex linens were used to represent the 50th Anniversary of the company and red spandex chair covers represented the Dominos brand colors.

An article was just published in the recent Meeting News Magazine discussing the recent law signed by Obama in March, establishing a national convention and visitors bureau dubbed the Corporation for Travel Promotion. This act will not likely take shape for at least 2 years.

Up until now, the U.S. has never really promoted tourism on a national level for one can only assume they felt it wasn't necessary. However many other countries are light years ahead in touting their tourism offerings such as Australian Tourism, Canadian Tourism Commission and Visit Britain just to name a few.

This is a first step in what can be a very large boost to the meetings and tourism industries in the U.S.

Set into law by the stroke of President Barack Obama's pen in March, the Travel Promotion Act will begin to take shape in the coming months with the establishment of a national convention and visitors bureau and the enactment of that entity's primary funding mechanism, a new fee on some inbound visitors. However, that new visitors bureau, dubbed the Corporation for Travel Promotion, is unlikely to be a fully operating concern for at least two years, according to rollout estimates.

According to a "best-case" timeline anticipated by the U.S. Travel Association—one of the Travel Promotion Act's chief cheerleaders and consultant to the government on the project—the first step is the appointment of the Corporation for Travel Promotion's board of directors, a task expected to take "several months" from the March 4 passage date. Appointed by U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, the board will comprise executives representing seven travel industry sectors, from hotels and aviation to attractions and restaurants.

The Corporation for Travel Promotion's mission is to promote the United States to "travelers, travel agents, tour operators, meeting planners, foreign governments, travel media and other international stakeholders" through advertising, outreach and education.

To fund the startup, the Corporation for Travel Promotion will gain $10 million in its first year through a new fee on inbound travelers from visa-waiver countries. U.S. Travel expects fee collection to go live within eight to 12 months.

The Department of Homeland Security has a new mechanism to collect the $10 from some overseas visitors through its Electronic System for Travel Authorization, a system mandated this year for U.S.-bound travelers from visa-waiver countries to submit biographic data. Use of that system now is free, but as soon as this year, some of those inbound travelers could be subject to the new fee "once every two years," the U.S. Travel Association said.

Though half of the program's funds would come from that new visitor fee, the Corporation for Travel Promotion also would rely on private industry donations and partnerships, according to the act signed by Obama.

"Private sector companies and organizations that would benefit from increased international travel will be asked to make in-kind or cash contributions to the Corporation for Travel Promotion," U.S. Travel said, noting those contributions would be voluntary.

Commencing in the second year of the program, every voluntary dollar donated will be matched two-for-one from funds collected through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization, though the bill caps at $100 million annually the amount funded from the foreign traveler fee. However, effective for the program's third year and beyond, the government will match all voluntary contributions one-for-one, using funds collected through ESTA.

AeroTek is an outdoor, aerial and stilt movement spectacle. Featuring five acrobats on stilts rolling into backbends, splits, and a myriad of sculptural forms, AeroTek stretches one's perception of the human body. Strutting and dancing, suspended and flying the performers’ pincer-like metal legs slice the air as they spin and swim like fencers in a seas, barely missing each other in their fervent exploration of their metal home. Shedding layers of armor, the acrobats slowly transform from superhuman warriors to fragile nymphs balancing high above the audience, hanging precariously from straps, the cage, and each other and finally descending to earth.

Childhood Fantasies

Members of the Orange County chapter of Meeting Professionals International reverted back to their childhood as they relived some of their childhood fantasies at the Discovery Science Center in an effort to raise funds for their continued educational programs. Once inside, all the guests recieved a photo passport (courtesy of Four Quick Clicks) and were then escorted to the Cube Terrace where they stepped into a jungle explorerer fantasy where they enjoyed cocktails and a "hot" performance from a fire performer (Courtesy of Background Productions).

Once inside, guests were encouraged to bid the night away on a large selection of silent auction items while enjoying delicious comfort foods (courtesy of Colettes Catering). It was a circus inside, actually to be more specific, it was a Carnival of the Mind where unique Carnival like characters roamed the floor and strolling tables (courtesy of Talented Tables) showcased auction items.

After a well balanced meal of grilled cheese sandwiches and mini burgers, the guests could step into the candy bar and fill bags full of candy to their hearts content (courtesy of Candee by Sandee). As if the candy were not enough, upstairs even more sweet treats awaited our guests such as miniature cupcakes, carmel apples and minature donuts provided by The Fry Girl.

The Childhood fantasy would not be complete without living the all-star sports dream where guests can shoot goals in virtual hockey, play fast ball pitch and pose with a human baseball trophy.

Fun was had by all as this proved to be the most successful MPIOC fundraiser ever in terms of dollars raised!

Ultimate Wave Tahiti 3D

Attended by dignitaries and superstars of the surfing industry, a capacity crowd of about 500 came out for the world premiere of 3-D Imax surf film The Ultimate Wave Tahiti at the California Science Center produced by Infinity Events. The film’s stars, Kelly Slater and Raimana Van Bastolaer, served as hosts for a guest list of surf industry executives, athletes, and media.

At last count, there were companies in Dubai, Australia, Albania, Dallas Texas, Pennsylvania, Bellvue Washington and many more I'm sure if I took the time to research.

We are currently working towards branding and protecting our name globally however in the meantime please know that there is truly only ONE Infinity Events Inc and to be cautious when surfing the net and make sure you know what you are reading. "Save Me The Money"!...A recap from BizBash LA 2009

June 11 - Robb was impressed with the standing room only attendance at such an early hour for his session on "Financial Issues for Planning Events From the Inside Out".

"I just felt the attendees were so open and responsive to any ideas they could take away with them to stay in the game during these uncertain economic times" said Robb who offered key tips in saving money and providing alternatives that are fresh yet relevant in our industry. Below are just a few highlights from that session:

Manage your fixed costs
•Control your overhead: Re-evaluate your fixed costs such as:
- DSL/Internet connection: Research cheaper providers
- Website hosting: Switching providers can save you big $
- Upgrade your equipment: Computer moving too slow. How old is your system, how old is the operating system, how much storage do you have? What is the cost of continuous repair –vs.- replacement or software upgrades?

Measuring ROI and establishing your value
- Show your management where and how you are saving money. Illustrate the cost and time efficiency of outsourcing your meeting and event needs versus the cost of your time in making hundreds of phone calls, site inspections and contracts on top of your already heavy work load. Where is your time better spent?
- Be discreet: Perceived perception is a hot button these days. Even those companies that still have the budgets are not flaunting it. Management is more likely to green light a program or meeting if they feel this event will not land them on the cover of the headline news.

Capitalize and Conquer:
- Yes we know the economy is not great, budgets are down, meetings and events are being canceled however this is all temporary. Will you be ready when business is in an upswing or will you still be hiding under your desk waiting for it all to be over? Now is the time to increase your marketing efforts.

Spend more money? What?! Is this right?:
- Take advantage of discounts for advertising. You will either get the same for less or get more for the same. Invest in yourself and your reputation.

Negotiating with Vendors

Value their time
- Negotiate multiple bookings in exchange for lesser rates / Preferred vendors will enable you to maximize discounts

Know their strengths
- Take the time to learn what your vendor’s strengths are. You know what they’ve done for you in the past but what are they capable of now. What new products, services or techniques have they added. It is their job to keep you informed of their latest updates but it is also your job to stay on top of what is out there to remain relevant. (Vendors may have new product or service they want to showcase you can get at better rate or free).

Recession Strategies

Purchase event décor when and if necessary:
- Sometimes it makes more sense to purchase the simplest of items rather than outsourcing and renting especially if they can be re-used for another event.
